Aamir Khan, accompanied by five other torchbearers Dr. Narayan G Hegde- President, BAIF Development Research Foundation, Dr. Kiran Bedi - noted officer in the Indian Police Service (IPS) and founder Navjyoti foundation, Ravi Singh- Secretary General & CEO, World Wildlife Fund India and Atul Singh, President & CEO, Coca-Cola India. Y. Subhash Chandra Reddy- environment champion, will bear the Olympic torch in Delhi on the 17th of April.
Speaking about the same Aamir said, “I am delighted to be a part of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Olympic Torch Relay. This is a rare privilege and an absolute honor. What makes this special is that it gives me the opportunity to be associated with the world’s greatest sporting event and at the same time to raise awareness about the cause of the environment. We have diamonds but we need to polish them. We need adequate research and development in the sport and that alone can create a champion.”
All six torchbearers, who are a part of the Coca Cola (Presenting partner for the Beijing Olympics) Environment Champions, were present at a press meet at Grand Hyatt, Kalina, Mumbai on Monday late noon, March 24, and pledged to protect the environment and support the cause of water conservation.
