Forehead is the choice of canvas for fine arts in India: the designated destination for decorative art. In a land where lipstick on lips is frowned on, there is complete freedom when it comes to forehead. It is not just the married woman, it is everyone: small children, gown up men, domesticated animals, and of course the still idols of god. Anyone one with a reachable forehead is a fair game.

I am told that there is deep significance in the placement of the dot in the middle of the forehead. This is place where the third eye is: you know the wisdom eye. So the dot is just a wisdom eye patch. Indians are just wise pirates.

Ladies, we know you think we cannot communicate. If you have learned to live with it, and you are happy with whom you got, you are an amazing and wise woman; kudos to you. But if you are one of those that even if your boyfriend or husband were the greatest orator or the most prolific writer in the land, you would still complain about his inability to express, then read on. And you know who you are: you think Indian man have a genetic defect; you think there is something wrong with us.

Rajdhani express had picked up speed as it left Dhanbad. In this particular winter night the train was mostly empty. A thirty something lady on the upper berth was too cold to fall asleep. She looked around and located the pile of blanket across the compartment. She was too lazy to get down and fetch the blankets. Instead, she stuck her head out and looked at the only other passenger sleeping in the bottom berth.”Excuse me sir,” she said with a smile. “If you be so kind and bring me a blanket, I would really appreciate it.”

The middle aged man looked at her, pulled his blanket off, and sat up.

“Sure madam,” he said. But paused for a moment and looked up at her.

“But what is there for me?”
