Here is another letter from J. This is a follow up of his earlier letter on Choice of Bias.

Dear H,

After my last email, I did some investigative reporting – otherwise known as pocking around on Google while at work. The current conventional wisdom is that Indian Americans are spilt between Hillary and Obama. There is a single report by Parveen Chopra based on interviews in NY. But it was reproduced over and over again. From regional media such as South Asian Post and national media such as Deccan Herald to local media such as newKerala and Mangalorean. Of course, the online sources such as Indian eNews and BigNews Network were there too. I even saw the same posting on Indian Muslims. You get the idea. I cannot help but wonder weather the report was widely used because it had important revelation or because it was the only one available? I have not come across another recent article about the topic yet.

This is a letter from an old and close friend of mine. How close you ask. Well, he lives in California, and still calls me friend even though we have not seen each other for years. We used to spend a lot of time together, but that was long time ago. Back then we used to share similar lives and ideas. I would not claim that to be true today. These are his words, his opinions. I told him about the blog, and asked him if he can contribute. He said he would be happy to do it, but on two conditions. I cannot pester him to write regularly, and I have to respect his privacy. So I shall call him J. Here is the letter from J without any edits.

We used to hear about movies a lot though from those who went to the city to watch movies. They had two theaters. And yes, it was before TV became a common house hold thing. Such were the times. We were more accustomed with the bioscope: the small box with little holes where you can stick your face and watch a few slides move around to give an illusion of movement. So it was always fascinating to hear about the movie theater; not necessarily the movies but how it felt to be inside one of them. As I later came to suspect, they used to add their own color about the city and the cinema halls.

If you ever want to know what the outside world thinks of India, read the news from another country. It was a privilege of a select handful of people even a few years ago, but now we do not have to buy anything to read foreign media. Well you can go to any of the popular sites and read them. But remember to try the original source, not the Indian version. (Here is a tip for those who like me are still not well informed: yahoo.com instead of in.yahoo.com or Google News instead of Google India.) Coming to think of it, it would not make much of a difference. Those are mostly for the purists among us.
